Course Description: “APA – 2012 IRC BRACED WALLS” This seminar will cover the long-history of bracing and how loads are handled through braced wall lines and braced wall panels. It will break down the general requirements of wall bracing and show how to use the tables within the 2012 IRC to determine if braced wall lines meet code requirements. Because of the many options in the wall bracing section of the code, a “Simplified Method” of bracing has been created. This section of code, along with an alternate simplified method created by APA, will be addressed. The new APA “bracing calculator,” an online tool for showing compliance with IRC bracing, will be demonstrated as a method for providing a bracing report to the builder and building official.
